VIAVI Introduces Industry’s First DOCSIS 3.1 Installation and Service Solution to Accelerate Deployment of Gigabit to the Home
Milpitas, Calif., March 9, 2016 – VIAVI Solutions (NASDAQ: VIAV) today introduced the industry’s first cable television (CATV) signal analysis meter fully compliant with the DOCSIS 3.1 standard, enabling multi-service operators (MSOs) to equip their field technicians with the instruments needed to roll out this technology on a mass scale. VIAVI is a supplier to some of the MSOs presently driving commercialization of DOCSIS 3.1 around the globe, and leveraged its extensive experience in cable test and measurement to develop the OneExpert™ CATV Signal Analysis Meter, enabling production installations in 2016. This instrument includes VIAVI’s hallmark ease of use, simplifying the installation procedure for this new and complex technology to minimize training needs, increase technician productivity and reduce deployment timeframes.
OneExpert is the first cable field meter with the ability to quickly run a complete battery of tests and not only provide pass/fail results, but offer suggested next steps for troubleshooting.
In the battle for broadband supremacy, MSOs are competing with telecommunications service providers and new entrants such as Google Fiber to deliver a gigabit connection to the home. DOCSIS 3.1 has emerged as the next-generation technology of choice in the cable industry, having performed well in trials, and now operators are announcing plans for broad deployments. In order to scale effectively, field technicians need to be equipped to test services to 1 Gbps with standard-compliant and production-ready instruments and management systems.
Major MSOs around the globe have adopted the OneExpert™ CATV meter for their field installation teams because of its ease of use, portability and low total cost of ownership. Several of these customers requested that VIAVI extend the OneExpert value proposition to DOCSIS 3.1 to enable early testing and field deployment. As a result, OneExpert is the first installation and service meter to comply with the DOCSIS 3.1 standard, having participated in the recent DOCSIS 3.1 CableLabs interoperability plug fests.
Key features of the product include:
- Embedded DOCSIS 3.1 modem for full 3.1 service testing up to 1 Gbps
- Also available in a version with DOCSIS 3.0 with 32x8 bonding, software upgradable to DOCSIS 3.1, for those customers who are not yet ready to deploy this technology but would like to take advantage of the powerful feature set for current installations
- Multi-touch, user-friendly interface with OneCheck™ automated testing and a simple dashboard clearly indicating pass-fail results and suggested next steps for troubleshooting
- When combined with other VIAVI products, OneExpert offers a comprehensive solution to test and provision DOCSIS 3.1, fiber to the home (FTTH) and Wi-Fi
- Compatible with the StrataSync cloud-based management platform, providing asset, configuration, upgrade and test data management for VIAVI instruments.
“Communications service providers across the board have made great strides in advancing broadband in the last mile, with VIAVI providing support for multiple technologies,” said Rob Flask, Director of Product Line Management, VIAVI Solutions. “If DOCSIS 3.1 is to successfully transition from trial to operation in 2016, installation instruments and management systems need to be ready to go today, and we’re pleased to provide a solution that can meet that challenge.”
