Minimum Fiber Length for CD
Knowledge Base - Solution
Does a fiber need to be a specific length in order to perform a Chromatic Dispersion (CD) measurement?
CD measurements are normally done on fibers 10 kilometers or greater. Chromatic dispersion is caused by different wavelengths traveling at different speeds down the fiber. In order to see and measure this spreading of the wavelengths over time, the signal has to travel through some amount of fiber before performing the measurement.
