40G Ceritfier Pass when IL or RL fails
Knowledge Base - Solution
How can NEXT or RL, on my Viavi 40G Certifier copper testing, have a failing value yet the test is a PASS?
A test PASS with a failing NEXT or RL results would be due to the 3db/4db rule. TIA standards have a 3dB rule and a 4dB rule. The 3dB rule says that if Insertion Loss is less than 3dB then Return Loss cannot fail. The 4dB rule says that if Insertion Loss is less than 4dB then any NEXT failures can be ignored. Prior to release 6.2, this rule was configurable on the 40G setup menu under Test Options. This optional configuration was moved under the password protected LAB settings. It should not be changed for field use.
