CLAW GPS Simulator DC Power Supply

Knowledge Base - FAQ

What are the supported voltage levels of the CLAW's DC Power supply?
To avoid damaging the unit, please ensure the following guidelines are strictly followed regarding power input: Voltage Limit: The power input voltage on Connector J3 pins 15 or 16 must never exceed 36V, even for very short durations, such as during a voltage spike. Preventing Hot-Swap Power Surges: The unit’s input capacitance, combined with cable inductance, can result in a hot-swapping power surge. This may cause a brief (lasting nanoseconds to microseconds) voltage pulse that could be 2x to 3x the nominal power voltage, potentially damaging the unit. Inrush Current Limiting: If using power supply voltages higher than 15V, or if the power cable exceeds two feet in length, an external series resistor of at least 1 ohm must be added in-line with the power cable to limit inrush surge currents. Operating the unit with a power supply voltage higher than 15V without this damping resistor can result in irreversible damage. Following these precautions will help ensure the safe and reliable operation of the device.
