The network performance monitoring tools are invaluable for daily operations. The time saved with these tools means that railway operators can ensure optimal quality-of-service and even carry out proactive maintenance using techniques such as machine learning and reference analysis.
During the rollout of a network, EVOIA Assure uses a set of technical and functional KPIs to ensure the network is compliant to various performance and safety standards. Technical KPIs evaluate connection establishment times and the failure rate of any kind of transaction, handover, etc. Functional KPIs evaluate parameters such as the routing of location dependent addressing calls, the functioning of registration/deregistration, group call area description, and more.
Future Railway Mobile Communication System Monitoring
GSM-R is the current rail telecoms network standard in Europe and other markets. However, equipment manufacturers intend to remove support from 2030, and replace it with the Future Railway Mobile Communication System (FRMCS), the next global standard for railway communications.
With 5G at its core, FRMCS promises the ability to transmit, receive and use higher data speeds and volumes, offer different levels of operational service to users (“network slicing”), and facilitate mass machine communications.
Predicted FRMCS network benefits include offering improved service quality specific to the different needs of users and application types, reliable low latency communications networks needed to support applications such as driverless trains, as well as supporting other IOT (Internet of Things), predictive, and smart maintenance requirements.
