MTS/TBERD 5800 RS-FEC Bypass
Knowledge Base - FAQ
When would you want to use the RS-FEC Bypass that is available in applications such 25GE and CPRI Option 10 (24.3G)?
Applications designed specifically for RS-FEC usually use or may require RS-FEC by specification in order to be standard compliant or achieve the desired range. Normally RS-FEC is applied automatically for those applications by the test instrument. Some optical pluggable manufacturers may implement RS-FEC into the actual optic itself. For those style optics, you would want to turn off the RS-FEC (bypass) on the test instrument, as it is already being performed by the optic.
Note: CPRI Option 10 standards specify the usage of RS-FEC as optional, whereas it is a requirement for 25GE. RS-FEC Bypass, for 25GE, should only be selected on the test instrument when the optic being used is performing the RS-FEC function. In most instances, it is expected that RS-FEC will be used.
