Environment, Health and Safety

Energy Use Reduction

We are dedicated to researching and implementing energy efficient measures in our offices to reduce our consumption and carbon footprint.

Environmental Impact

We continue to make progress for a greener organization in the areas of energy use, water consumption and solid-waste minimization. We endeavor to improve our facilities through applying the principles of the ISO 14001 standard as well as adhering to the RBA Code of Conduct.

Water Consumption Reduction

We partnered with Siemens Water Technologies to reduce our water consumption at our Santa Rosa site to treat and recycle water, saving approximately 4 million gallons of water per year.

Carbon Footprint Scopes 2024

We are committed to sustainable practices that govern our global business operations. VIAVI’s Scope 1 CO2 emissions decreased year-over-year partly because we have more accurate data about the CO2 emissions related natural gas consumption. This enhanced understanding enabled us to make targeted improvements in this area. Additionally, we successfully upgraded the lighting systems at a large manufacturing site resulting in reduced electrical energy consumption. VIAVI’s Scope 2 emissions remained relatively stable, even with the addition of a large manufacturing site moving toward full production capacity in 2022.

An absolute emissions figure does not convey our emissions relative to the size of the company, considering our growth over the past few years. As the following table indicates, VIAVI CO2 emissions intensity decreased between 2017 and 2022 on a headcount Full Time Equivalent (FTE) basis which encouragingly demonstrates a consistent reduction in emissions during this specified period. VIAVI’s CO2 emissions intensity remained stable on a revenue basis.
